My journey into entrepreneurship began with a deep love for being a Concierge and working in Guest Relations. This passion has driven me to transform my experiences into a unique business venture – the first of its kind, as far as I know, to make this a full-time endeavor. As I like to say, betting on yourself is the only way you never lose!

Deon has spent nearly 38 years in the hospitality industry, both locally and internationally, including time in Belgium and Dubai. During this period, he has had the privilege of interacting with individuals from all walks of life:

From Humble Beginnings to Head of Concierge

Deon’s career in Hospitality spans over 38 years, 15 of which have been as Head Concierge and Guest Relations Manager at the Palazzo Hotel. He is one of only 14 South African members of the International Society of the Golden Keys (Les Clefs d’Or), and is also the Founder and Chairman of the South African Concierge Forum. Deon lives and breathes Hospitality, and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.

The Birth of the South African Concierge Forum

On October 10, 2010, Deon launched the South African Concierge Forum – the first initiative of its kind in the country. This platform was designed to enable South African Concierges and Guest Relations professionals to share their experiences and expertise. Guided by the motto “Inspire, Share and Shine,” this initiative has grown to serve the hospitality industry account South Africa.

Interacting with hotel guests and industry professionals is more than just a passion for Deon – it is an obsession. He is deeply committed to sharing the knowledge and expertise he has accumulated over nearly four decades while helping to build much-needed skills and training within the industry.

A New Venture Born From Adversity

The global health pandemic of 2020 had a profound impact on the hospitality industry, forcing many to leave the sector they loved. This period of upheaval inspired Deon to take a bold step toward realizing his dream of becoming a consultant. He saw an urgent need for training and mentorship to help rebuild the industry and ensure its future.

As Deon closes one chapter of his life and opens another, he expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the colleagues, guests, and friends who have supported him along the way. He is excited to collaborate on this new journey as the Independent Director of D&D Concierge Consultancy.
